Unique features

The architecture of the space must be highlighted. Casa Hortícola succeeded Salsicharia Internacional, the establishment that occupied the space when Bolhão Market opened, inheriting and preserving the ceiling and walls with unique wood paintings, simulating marble. These elements are complemented by tile work on the walls, the famous "fountain", and the furniture and counters with marble tops, where meats were previously cut and later seeds were packed and customers were served. The current owner believes the store was built and preserved "with great taste". Another distinguishing aspect is the owner himself, Mr. António, whose trust and relationship with customers make Casa Hortícola unique.

A story or curiosity

For instance, a recent situation involved an American citizen visiting the store after seeing Mr. António's participation in a video on the Porto City Hall Instagram. This customer specifically came to meet him. On a more commercial note, the founder's forward-thinking vision stands out. He created an annual catalogue of seeds, bulbs, and other items available at Casa Hortícola, which was distributed nationwide. Orders were received and sent by mail throughout the country, an early version of today's online store.

Integration with the Local community

The greatest current contribution is tradition. Casa Hortícola maintains authenticity, nostalgia, and a sense of belonging, being a place of memories for those who visited with their parents and grandparents when they were young. It's a space where one can step back in time and say, "I was so happy here!".
