Presentation

Casa Chinesa was founded in 1939 by Joaquim Mota and Fernando Silva, then employees at Casa Villares. They decided to open the business at the location where it still operates today. The name of the shop refers to the origin of the products, following the tradition of giving oriental names to grocery stores. Over the years, Casa Chinesa diversified its offerings, including macrobiotic and natural foods. However, it has maintained the sale of staple products such as spices, dried fruits, teas, and codfish. This family business, now in its third generation, has managed to retain customers across several generations.

Unique features

The rarity, diversity, and quality of the products, combined with bulk sales and personalised service, set Casa Chinesa apart from other businesses in the same sector. Here, one can find a bit of everything: teas, spices, sauces, drinks, dried fruits, honey, jams, smoked goods, codfish, natural products, and dietary supplements.

A story or curiosity

The owners of Casa Chinesa humorously report that the shop is often mistaken for a "Chinese store". Customers frequently call by mistake asking if they sell flags or carpets by the meter!

Integration with the Local community

As a neighbourhood business, Casa Chinesa has developed great empathy with its customers over the years, especially the most loyal ones who feel part of the organisation and enliven the daily life of the shop with their personal stories. Passing customers react with admiration for the diversity of products on display and the personalised counter service with bulk sales. All customers, regular or not, approach the shop's merchants positively, encouraging the continuity of the business and the preservation of traditional commerce.
