Araucana was founded by its managing partner, Alexandra Alves - who, after several years of working as an industrial director, felt an enormous desire to change life and surround herself, in her words, with "beautiful objects". She's always liked clothes and fashion, especially the ones with design and refinement. A trip to Bali and the empathy with a French brand linked to environmental sustainability were the motto to "take the leap" and radically change her days! Araucana's mission is to fill Porto with beautiful, elegant, and refined women who know how to dress with art, but have a strong ethical and environmental conscience. In this space dedicated to the slow fashion concept, we can find exclusive pieces by national designers, with special relevance to the extraordinary brand “Pé de Chumbo”, and international ones, like the young Colombian “Carolina Ronderos”. The name Araucana comes from a poem by Pablo Neruda:

"Perhaps you did not know, Araucana,

that before I loved you, I forgot your kisses

my heart was left remembering your mouth (...)".

Unique features

For Alexandra Alves, an elegant woman is one you want to look twice, not because of her exuberance, but because of her discreet beauty. The store manager curates a very personal shop, which makes Araucana’s offer different. The service is personalized, always in search of a special connection with each one of the clients that visit the shop. There is total availability to make the requested alterations to the clothes, to make them completely fit the clients who buy them. Orders are delivered anywhere in the world."

A story or curiosity

At the beginning of May 2021 and after three months of closure, the owner put a “Pé de Chumbo” dress in the shop window - a dress with several colours, but with a dominant red thread. At a time when the streets were empty, she received a visit from a young couple who showed interest in the dress but no time to try it on. They promised to come back another day. The hope of a sale collapsed! But after two or three days, and after having put a second Pé de Chumbo dress in the shop window, the young couple appeared, as promised. The young woman tries on the red dress, but is indecisive and wants to try on the other dress, with white thread. Her boyfriend went up to her and whispered something that made her smile with all her soul. He then translated what he had told her: "that she looked beautiful and that the dress she had on was the one he wanted to marry her in". Decision made! That dress from the wonderful artisan from “Pé de Chumbo” would be the wedding dress for that beautiful young woman. But the red dress was so fantastic, so unique... that she bought them both!

Integration with the Local community

Araucana, along with other commercial establishments in Rua dos Caldeireiros, was the driving force behind the pedestrianization of that street, with a direct positive impact on the day-to-day lives of shop owners and residents. The neighbourhood relations are exceptional, with everyone feeling they can rely on each other for everything.

Elements to be exhibited

Within the scope of Comércio Fora do Sítio, Araucana is associated with Alcino Silversmith Since 1902 Workshop Store, lending a “Pé de Chumbo” piece of clothing from the 2023 collection - an authentic work of art by a Portuguese designer!

Storefront concept

“The artisans talent reflects the natural world perfection.”

In the f "Araucana" window we observe two silver giraffes handcrafted by "Alcino Silversmith Since 1902 Workshop Store". The pieces are part of the Viagem Collection of the centenary jewelery, and gave the motto for the storefront concept. Three vertical levels were created with giraffe pattern characteristic to highlight the product and texture. These unusual animals, which can look "further", fit perfectly into the "Araucana" showcase, which values the sustainability and slow fashion. Between "Araucana" and "Alcino Silversmith Since 1902 Workshop Store" - stores that exchange products and objects within the scope of Comércio Fora do Sítio - a continuity of color was established, in order to reinforce the connection between the two establishments.
